Mina awoke slowly as Yuila tried to be quiet the next morning. The girl was moving about the room in the bright sun that promised a hot day, grumbling about something as Mina sat up. She grimaced as her foot moved beneath the bedclothes, and then looked blearily to the Crone at the table folding her clothes.
"Oh, good, you're awake." Yuila sat beside Mina on the bed and patted her hand. "How do you feel, Sapo?"
She nodded. "Better than yesterday." She looked to Edvard shoving his things into a bag. "How long have you been up?"
"Just a little while," Yuila told her. "Go back to sleep and we'll wake you up when we leave."
"I'll get up now."
Yuila stood and let Mina slide her legs over the side of the bed.
Edvard stepped nearer, watching her testily put weight on the bandaged foot.
"How long until we leave?"
"I've got a few errands, and then we're off. We'll eat first," he added, glancing at Yuila.
Mina stood carefully, the sole of her foot feeling as if it were splitting. After a moment of pressure, the burning feeling passed and she sighed. "Not too bad."

He bent and felt around Mina's ankle, then stood. "No heat. That's good. We can still stay another day, if you'd rather, Mina."
She shook her head. "I'm ready to go."
He gestured to the basket by the door. "We've got the rest of our clothes back. Hungry?"
The cheese rolls were already being devoured by Yuila. The flaky pastry was filled with almonds and a soft cheese sweetened with honey. By the time they had finished every roll, the sun was warming the room to sweltering temperatures. Edvard had left shortly after, promising to return in half an hour, and Mina said they'd be packed to leave.
Yuila sat near the window overlooking the inn's small yard as Mina brushed her hair and divided it into sections. "How angry do you think my mother will be?"
